Anti Immigration Anti Population Australia

The Social Contract Press & Australia

Various Australians have contributed article, reviews, and/or have had their publications or books reviewed in John Tanton's The Social Contract Press including:

Dr. Robert Birrell of Monash University's Centre for Population and Urban Research in addition to articles, has had his books available via The Social Contract Press.

Articles Birrell has contributed include:

"Australian Nation State" Winter 1996-97

"Australia's Cultural Identity" Spring 1997

Review by Birrell:

"Chinese Chain Migration" review of Chinatown: The Socio-Economic Potential of an Urban Enclave (Min Zhou 1992) Summer 1994. Birrell is described as a "founder of Australia's immigration reform movement", and is critical that Zhou makes no reference to drug use, crime and criminal gangs thus not "hard headed enough" like Kinkead 1992 (Chinatown: A Portrait of a Closed Society), who was also reviewed in The Social Contract.

Katherine Betts:

"Australia's New Population Report: It's Background and Recommendations" Spring 1993

"Population Policy Issues" (Issue theme "Australia's identity crisis") Winter 1997-98

"The Evolution of Social Capital: On the origins of the social contract" Spring 1998

Betts book Ideology and Immigration: Australia 1976 to 1987, had excerpts published in The Social Contract Summer 1991

Mark O'Connor who had run for the senate for the Sustainable Population Party of Australia, author of "Overloading Australia", launched by patron of SPA Bob Carr, and the basis of Dick Smith's anti population growth campaign:

"When is a Country Overpopulated" Fall 1992

"Immigrationism, Racism and Moral Monopoly" Winter 1993-94

Fiona Heinrichs (member of SPA Sustainable Population Australia):

Her online book was reviewed by Elbel, "A Sustainable Australia?" Fall 2011. The online book "Sleepwalking to Catastrophe" ('Big Australia', Immigration, Population Expansion and the Impossibility of Endless Economic Growth in a Finite World) now links to a blog in Japanese about a prefecture ( ).

Writers' Workshops

Further, The Social Contract Press has run writers' workshops in conjunction with PFIR (Progressives for Immigration Reform) and attended by Mark O'Connor, Jenny Goldie and Labor MP Kelvin Thompson.

Similar workshops have also been run in Australia by SPA who also have links to FAIR and The Social Contract.

High profile member of the "network" Roy Beck visited Australia January 2013 in his role as head of Numbers USA, with connections to Tanton, but denied and and obscured.

SPA patrons include Prof Tim Flannery, Prof Ian Lowe, Dr Mary White, Dr Paul Collins and Senator The Hon. Bob Carr, President Sandra Kanck and Vice President John Coulter.

At best Australians involved with SPA and the anti immigration movement have made less than optimal choices about whom they associate with, and are possibly influenced by in their pro environmental endeavours.

John Tanton Social Contract

John Tanton's The Social Contract Press is designated as a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center SVLP (Founded in 1971, is a non-profit organization that combats hate, intolerance and discrimination through education and litigation):

"In 1994 The Social Contract Press republished an infamous racist novel 'The Camp of the Saints' with his whole hearted endorsement and a special afterword from its author saying 'the proliferation of other races, dooms our race, my race to extinction'...... Tanton said he was 'honored' to republish what he described as an important and 'prescient' text.  The novel, like the race war fantasy 'Turner Diaries', has become a key screed for American white supremacists" (SVLP)

Tanton's The Social Contract is the fulcrum of his movement, and he is described as the "puppeteer" with a network of other fellow travellers, front organisations and groups funded, controlled and/or patronised by Tanton and/or U.S. Inc., in both the USA and internationally.

These include Federation of Americans for Immigration Reform FAIR (Dan Stein), Centre for Immigration Studies CIS (Mark Krikorian), Progressives for Immigration Reform PFIR (Philip Cafaro & Kevin Lynn), VDARE (Peter Brimelow), Numbers USA (Roy Beck), American Legislative Exchange Council ALEC  etc. and others in Tanton's network.

More telling have been the pro eugenic, white supremacist, separatist, racist and anti semitic groups whose leaders and members Tanton has corresponded with including KKK (racism), Pioneer Fund (eugenics), Council of Conservative Citizens (white separatism), American Renaissance etc.

The evidence, not merely allegations of relations, was provided by Tanton himself, i.e. his personal letters were given and are publicly available in the Bentley Historical Library at University of Michigan (apparently unable to resist attention, perceived status and plaudits from his fellow travellers, plus need for a legacy).
Further, his adherents in the USA which unlike Australia has freedom of speech enshrined in the constitution, allows racists to quite openly express their views.

Another feature of Tanton supporters is their protective behaviour(not unlike cults) which can be exemplified by attacking the messenger while ignoring contrary arguments and evidence against Tanton, while they neither provide referenced evidence nor solutions to issues (except their obsession, stop population growth and immigration).

Many online forums, and especially comment sections of news and related articles regarding population, immigration, environment, identity, Asia, Latinos etc., are filled with pro Tantonites, obviously familiar with each other and organised, who behave like 'trolls', i.e. seem to think anybody who disagrees must be attacked personally (this media strategy will be explored in more detail later).

"Unfortunately FAIR and other anti immigration groups have used reckless, distorted language and tactics that cloud and inhibit responsible debate" (Baumgarten).

Next we shall start to look at the Australian end of Tanton's network of influence via high profile Australians and environmental groups with media access, who act as "messengers",  "influencers" and "protectors".

Australian Immigration Population Racism

Australia has had a visitor called Roy Beck from "NumbersUSA" appearing in the media to argue against immigration and population growth.

Beck is obviously concerned about the environment, as are Australian groups who subscribe to similar views e.g. Stable Population Party and the Sustainable Population Australia.

However, the benevolence ends there as Roy Beck has had a chequered past which he has tried to deny.

Beck was both follower and editor of John Tanton's "The Social Contract Press", while Tanton also founded FAIR the Federation of Americans for Immigration Reform, and also attempted a take over the Sierra Club (he was also an admirer of Australia's "White Australia Policy")

According to the Southern Poverty Law Centre (who encourage tolerance and fight discrimination, and have been targeted by The Social Contract Press for an expose of Tanton):

"John Tanton is the racist architect of the modern anti-immigrant movement. He created a network of organizations – the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) and NumbersUSA – that have profoundly shaped the immigration debate in the United States....

Tanton’s white nationalist views are fully exposed in his private papers at the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan...

...The papers in the Bentley Library also show that Tanton has for decades been at the heart of the white nationalist scene. He has corresponded with Holocaust deniers, former Klan lawyers and the leading white nationalist thinkers of the era.....

He wrote a major funder to encourage her to read the work of a radical anti-Semitic professor — to "give you a new understanding of the Jewish outlook on life" — and suggested that the entire FAIR board discuss the professor's theories on the Jews......

...Tanton also runs the racist publishing company, The Social Contract Press, which is part of his foundation, U.S. Inc. One special issue of the press’ journal, The Social Contract, was devoted to the theme of "Europhobia: The Hostility Toward European-Descended Americans"........ decrying the "unwarranted hatred and fear" of whites that he blamed on "multiculturalists" and immigrants....

.....FAIR, whose members have testified frequently before Congress, accepted more than $1 million from the Pioneer Fund, a racist foundation devoted to proving a connection between race and intelligence. FAIR has hired as key officials men who were also active in white supremacist groups and has others who write for anti-immigrant hate sites. Due to these activities, FAIR has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

FAIR is just one part of an anti-immigration network created by Tanton that has never strayed far from its roots. In fact, these groups are fundamentally linked and driven by their founder's vision that non-white immigration is a threat to white America." Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Southern Poverty Law Center monitors hate groups and other extremists throughout the United States and exposes their activities to law enforcement agencies, the media and the public.

Coming up will be blogs exploring the Australian connections through followers, influencers, messengers who are assisting Tanton and his views both wittingly and unwittingly.

RBA ASIC Securency Corruption?

Outspoken RBA exec 'forced out'.  THE whistleblower who exposed alleged corruption in two Reserve Bank companies told five top bank officials of his explosive concerns, only to be later forced out of his job and warned to keep quiet.

The revelations about what the former banknote executive Brian Hood has told federal police investigating the scandal raise serious questions about whether bank officials have risked breaking the law by misleading Parliament, covering up corruption or victimising a whistleblower.

Corruption at Australian Wheat Board?

THE GOLDEN rule of the electronic age is to think before you hit send. It is why, in late 2008, the operational head of Australia's biggest corruption probe read and reread the missive he had prepared, pausing on the last few lines....

...At 3.18pm on December 18, Ross Fusca, the acting co-ordinator of the AWB oil-for-food taskforce, hit ''send'' and his 30-year career began a rapid downwards spiral. Fusca was quickly disciplined and demoted. Worse would come: stress leave, a humiliating return to work and, most recently, a Federal Court action that details an explosive claim that Fusca was offered a promotion in return for prematurely shutting down the police's AWB inquiry....

....Overseas, many company executives who, like AWB managers, rorted the United Nations oil-for-food program to pay kickbacks to the regime of Saddam Hussein, have been jailed and given huge fines. In Australia, not one of the so-called ''dirty dozen'' - the now former AWB managers who the Cole royal commission found to have acted corruptly - has faced a criminal charge.

Australia University Academic Expense Corruption Rorting Claims

Suspended academic may face police probe. POLICE may be called in to investigate a Newcastle University academic, Jesse Sheng Jin, over expense claims made against research grant money, according to Fair Work Australia documents.

Professor Jin's barrister, Tony Slevin, told the Fair Work Australia tribunal that his client, who denies any wrongdoing, faced not only possible charges of serious misconduct but also referral to police and the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

This is small fry and ICACs or auditor generals would be see this as the tip of the iceberg if they investigated systemic travel rorting under the guise of international marketing conducted by university and TAFE international administrative and project personnel, plus faculty.

Australia Higher Education Anti Corruption Probe at University of New England

THE awarding of contracts for campus services at the University of New England is under investigation by the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption.
ICAC said today it would begin public hearings on January 23 into allegations of corrupt conduct by UNE campus services manager Colin McCallum.

The university said it had investigated the allegations and referred them to ICAC.

ICAC said Mr McCallum was accused of corruptly soliciting and receiving benefits for himself and others from December 2004 to April 2011.

In return, he allegedly favoured Quad Services Pty Ltd, Sydney Night Patrol and Inquiry Pty Ltd, and Prosys Services Pty Ltd in the awarding of UNE contracts.

Mr McCallum allegedly approved payment of false invoices submitted to UNE by those companies.

ICAC said it also was investigating an allegation that in 2010 "Mr McCallum corruptly arranged for payment for the hire of UNE sports facilities for use by New England Rugby Union by providing false and misleading information to other UNE employees''.

UNE said it would "continue to fully cooperate'' with ICAC.
